Buying a park home – 5 things to consider before moving day

Moving house is rarely anyone’s favourite activity to do. It can be one of the most stressful events in your life, even when it is a move for the better. And if it’s planned to be your final move, why not keep things as simple as possible?

If you’ve found your perfect home and are preparing for the park home move, there may be elements you haven’t thought about yet. As park home specialists, Quickmove can provide helpful tips, so you’re not caught off guard at the last minute. In this article, we’ll go over a few pointers of things to consider to help you prepare for the big day. So take a deep breath and relax; you’ll be settled in your new park home in no time.

#Tip 1- Inform your utility suppliers

You must notify all the utility providers of your plans to move–electricity, gas, water, phone, and broadband providers will all need to know when you will be leaving the property. Try and give your supplier as much notice as possible, as moving over may take several weeks.

Once you’ve moved in, you may have to wait sometime for your internet to be installed, so make sure before you move that you download any information you may require, such as appliance manuals, directions, or even those films you’ve been wanting to watch.

#Tip 2- Arrange your park home insurance

You’ll want to be sure you have both buildings and contents insurance in place before the day you move. You’ll need contents insurance in place for the move to ensure your items are protected if they are damaged.

Quickmove recommends you look for a policy that is tailored to the needs of residential park home owners. Park Home Assist is a leading provider of residential park insurance in the UK, with over 16 years of expertise and over 25,000 park home and lodge owners insured across the country. They provide competitive and comprehensive plans, so visit their website for more information.

Tower Gate Insurance is another Quickmove recommended supplier. They provide a cover that is tailored to the needs of park home owners. They’ve been insuring park homes for almost 20 years and have an outstanding customer rating. More information can be found on their website…

#Tip 3- Get your mail re-directed

To ensure that you continue to receive mail after moving, you must redirect your mail to your new address. The redirect service provided by Royal Mail ensures that you do not miss any vital mail while also protecting your personal information from identity theft. You can set up your redirect before moving day. You can leave it in place for as long as you want, although we’re informed 6-12 months is usually plenty.

#Tip 4- Register a warranty

It is always important to check to see if a park home site is registered with a dependable warranty provider, such as GoldShield. This will financially protect you if any inherent defects in the structure of your home are found within the first 10 years of it being built.

If you purchase a new park home on one of Goldshield’s registered sites, you will need to check whether the park owner will register your home for you or whether the responsibility falls to you. If you have to do this yourself, you must register your GoldShield warranty during the first year of ownership.

You should also make sure that any park homes you’re considering meet BS3632, a British Standard indicating that their homes are acceptable for use as a permanent residence.

#Tip 5- Let family and friends know you’re moving

Don’t forget to notify your friends and family of your new address as well as the exact date you plan to move in. They may not require it right away, but when Christmas card season comes around, they’ll be grateful you planned.
