Are park homes warm and energy-efficient?

The winter months bring longer nights, colder temperatures and for many, the concern of an increasing energy bill. This is especially true in our ‘twilight years’ as we tend to feel the cold much more.

If you’re considering moving to a park home you may expect these modular dwellings to be less energy-efficient than traditional bricks and mortar. However, this simply isn’t the case with modern bungalow-style park homes which owners report as being warm, cosy and highly energy-efficient.

Constructed to Park Home BS3632 standard

As with bricks and mortar properties, park homes are manufactured to a level of independently regulated quality. The current British Standard for residential park homes, BS3632 ensures that park homes are built with energy efficiency at the forefront. Homes built to this standard benefit from improved insulation, thick walls, ventilation, double glazed windows and a low-energy-use heating system means they are warmer in winter and cooler in summer. For peace and quiet, state of the art insulation doubles up as sound-roofing to minimise any noise. Luxury residential park homes keep the cold out and the warmth in.

Homes built to BS3632 have higher minimum maintainable room temperatures and window and door glazing achieves better U-values. All these factors come together to mean less heat is lost and homeowners will benefit from saving on heating their homes.

It is not just energy efficiency that homes built to BS3632 benefit from, they’re also designed and built with a stronger chassis; better airflow; include low energy lighting and more rigorous sound reduction testing is now required, meaning a quieter environment.

All these improvements mean you will be warm, cosy and undisturbed throughout the winter in your park home, even in the harshest of British winters no matter what location, by the sea or inland.

Why are Park homes so well-insulated and energy efficient?

Modern park homes are constructed under carefully controlled workshop conditions in the UK with ultra-modern designs and materials. They are thoroughly quality-checked before being transported to the park where they are sited and connected to mains services and either mains or bottled gas.

The homes are timber-framed and mounted on a robust steel frame. There is a tough and durable weatherproof exterior, with well-insulated walls and a Goldshield-warranty roof.

If maintained properly, modern park homes can last up to 70-80 years. Read our article on the lifespan of park homes here.

How much does a park home cost to run?

According to manufacturer Willerby, the running costs of park homes and lodges are much lower than one might expect. Calculated using the domestic EPC/SAP method using mains gas, they show estimated running costs of £1.37 a day. That’s considerably less than a 1960’s bungalow, which runs at around £2.65 a day — saving you nearly £450 each year.
