Park Home owners report energy savings after moving from bricks and mortar

Survey of Park Home residents indicates ownership cuts household bills!

The cost-of-living crisis has caused many to consider how they can reduce household bills, with one solution being to downsize to a new but affordable residential park home.

In fact, a 2022 survey has indicated that moving to a modern residential park home can lead to considerably lower energy usage vs. bricks and mortar dwellings.

Park bungalow specialists Quickmove Properties surveyed 812 residents who have made the park move, for their observations on the resulting energy cost savings.

Key findings:

  • 69% agreed that their park bungalow was more energy-efficient than their previous bricks-and-mortar home.
  • Two-thirds agreed that moving to their park community was a smart financial decision.
  • Two-thirds also agreed that their energy bills were less since moving from a bricks-and-mortar home.
  • Over half of survey respondents estimated their energy bills were minimum 30% lower in their new park bungalow.

‘We should have done it sooner’

The survey also gathered comments and observations from owners about the relative energy usage in a park home. One said, ‘we are no longer heating rooms that we rarely use’, and another commented that the homes are ‘very well insulated and efficiently retain daytime heat overnight’.

Efficient heating has allowed one owner to ‘afford to keep the house at a comfortable temperature all year round’. On their move from a bricks and mortar property to a park home, another declared they had ‘no regrets and should have done it sooner’.

More efficient and cheaper to run

Mark O’Dwyer, Sales Director at Quickmove comments: ‘With the recent hikes in gas and electricity prices and more to come in the Autumn, UK households are clearly feeling the pinch, causing many to consider more affordable dwellings. The modern park bungalows offered by Quickmove are generally more efficient and cheaper to run than bricks and mortar, not to mention lower maintenance costs and Band A or B typical Council Tax.’

‘We support potential buyers every step of the way, from finding them a suitable park to arranging viewings and even buying a customer’s existing property using hassle-free part exchange.’

Why are Park homes so well-insulated and energy efficient?

Modern park homes are constructed under carefully controlled workshop conditions in the UK with ultra-modern designs and materials. They are thoroughly quality-checked before being transported to the park where they are sited and connected to mains services and either mains or bottled gas.

The homes are timber-framed and mounted on a robust steel frame. There is a tough and durable weatherproof exterior, with well-insulated walls and a Goldshield-warranty roof.

If maintained properly, modern park homes can last up to 70-80 years. Read our article on the lifespan of park homes here.

How much does a park home cost to run?

Costs vary for each household and data is soon out of date. However, home manufacturer Willerby recently worked out the running costs of their park homes and lodges. Calculated in 2020 using the domestic EPC/SAP method with mains gas, they showed that estimated running costs of a park home were 48% less than a 1960’s bungalow.
